THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.1 magnitude earthquake in Davao del Sur early dawn Sunday.

Based on Philvolcs' monitoring, the earthquake's epicenter was recorded around 1:31 a.m. Sunday at 168 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos in Davao del Sur.

On its latest advisory, however, the Phivolcs said the quake's epicenter was 202 kilometers southeast of Mati City, in Davao Oriental.

The quake was tectonic in origin and has a depth of 112 kilometers from the seabed.

Intensity 2 was recorded in Manay in Davao Oriental.

But prior to the early Sunday quake, two minor quakes also jolted some areas in Davao Region and its neighboring areas. The first quake, at 2.4 magnitude, was recorded at 149 southeast of Governor Generoso in Davao del Sur on Saturday evening, while the second, a 3.5 magnitude tremor, was recorded 43 kilometers northeast of Tandag City in Surigao del Sur on Saturday morning.
