KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Some P5.2-million worth of agricultural products were destroyed when flashfloods hit at least 10 villages in Kabacan town in North Cotabato last week, reports from the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) said.
Continued rains that started Friday damaged about 707 hectares of rice fields. At least 70 percent of which had no chance to recover, reports added.
Among the worst hit were the barangays of Malanduague, Pedtad, Bangilan, Katidtuan, Bannawag, Pisan, Kilagasan, Upper Paatan, Cuyapon, and Salapungan, all low-lying areas in Kabacan town.
These villages, mostly situated along the riverbanks of the Paidu Pulangi and Liguasan marsh, were among those hit by typhoon Pablo on December 4 and the recent torrential rains.
Recent data from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) showed more than 2,000 families were displaced when flood waters reached waist-deep.
