A RISE in water level of Lipadas River was again monitored on Tuesday night, prompting the City Government of Davao to impose preemptive evacuation of several residents.

Dante Donaire, operations officer of Davao City Risk Reduction and Management Center (DCRRMC), said the rise of the Lipadas River water level was monitored around 7 p.m., but subsided at midnight.

No casualty or damage was reported, according to Donaire.

"Tungod sa sige ug ulan, dili na mauga ang yuta. Saturated na ang yuta. Danlog na (Because of constant rain, the lands won't turn dry. The lands are saturated and have become slippery)," he told Sun.Star Davao.

He said since residents living near the riverbanks do not want to be relocated, the best way to do is to conduct preemptive evacuation among them.

Donaire said the preemptive evacuation is being imposed down to the barangay level.

Liwayway Caligdong, assistant chief of the City Social Services and Development Office, said they always stay alert whenever they receive information on incidents like the rise in water level to accommodate affected families.

Caligdong said, however, that as what had happened last Tuesday night, no affected families have been reported since they were later advised to go back in their homes after the water level subsided.

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, on the other hand, expressed satisfaction over the performance of the CDRRMC in disaster-readiness.

"CDRRMC member offices, NGA, NGO and private sector representatives have been very supportive of the Disaster Operations Center (DOC). They have made their respective resources available whenever called or needed, especially when there is an incident," Duterte-Carpio said in a text message.

She said the DOC, who operates 24 hours, maintains to observe their standard operating procedure.

"They don't wait for an order anymore because there is an SOP already. I intervene only when there are issues or problems that need to be resolved," she said. (ANC)
