KIDAPAWAN CITY -- One of the three suspected drug couriers arrested on Thursday in Kabacan town in North Cotabato turned out to be one of the alleged killers of the town's vice mayor, a police official said.
Superintendent Leo Ajero, chief of Kabacan police, said a witness had positively identified the suspect as among those that carried out the killing of Kabacan Vice Mayor Policronio Dulay on January 11.
The witness, according to Ajero, was near the area when the shooting happened.
The suspect, whom Ajero refused to identify pending further investigations, was included in the photos of most wanted criminals in North Cotabato province.
When Ajero's men conducted the buy-bust raid on Thursday, they recovered from the suspect several ammunition from different firearms.
They immediately placed the suspect under inquest proceedings for drug trafficking and illegal possession of ammunition.
Ajero said the Task Force Dulay led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Team-North Cotabato, has yet to conduct deeper probe on the suspect’s possible involvement in the killing.
The cash reward to those who could identify Dulay's killers had already reached P.6 million.
The police hinted politics as among the motives in the killing of Dulay last January 11.
Dulay was seeking re-election for his supposed last and third term as against an independent candidate, Datumaidu Sultan.
