Tsunami alert up, lifted in Davao

DAVAO City was on alert status after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) placed the provinces Davao Oriental and Davao del Sur under tsunami alert level 1 on Wednesday.
In its tsunami bulletin no. 1 issued at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, a magnitude-8 earthquake occurred near Santa Cruz Island at 09:12 a.m. (Philippine Time).
Coastal areas fronting the Pacific Ocean were advised of the tsunami watch. The provinces include Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Isabela, Quezon, Aurora, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental and Davao del Sur.
There was no evacuation order issued but the public was advised to be vigilant and stand-by for possible evacuation.
Three hours later, Phivolcs lifted the tsunami alert.
