AN OFFICIAL of the Davao City Chinatown Council said Thursday that celebration of the Chinese New Year on February 10 in Davao City can still be complete and merry even without firecrackers, which have been totally banned for years now in the city.
Jasper Huang, spokesperson for Davao City Chinatown, said they have been abiding by the city's policy on firecrackers since it was implemented 10 years ago.
"It is a matter of how you believe and how you celebrate it," Huang told reporters during the I-Speak Forum on Thursday.
Setting off firecrackers and fireworks for good luck is one of the traditional way of celebrating Chinese New Year.
The city has been implementing Ordinance 060-02 or Firecracker Ban, a landmark legislation of the city.
