DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio endorsed the candidacy of San Juan Representative Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito before 3,000 local legislators during the recent Philippine Councilors League (PCL).
"His track records in San Juan speak of how he works. So I would like to personally endorse his candidacy to you, bahala ma-electioneering ako hindi naman ako tatakbo," Duterte-Carpio said in her welcome remarks during the PCL welcome dinner at the SMX Convention Center of SM Lanang Premier in February 5.
Ejercito, who was the keynote speaker during the welcome dinner last Tuesday, is seeking for a senatorial post in May 2013 midterm elections.
"We learned a lot from San Juan. Marami kaming kinuha na ginawa nila, magagandang ginawa nila. Sinubukan namin at sinusubukan namin para sa aming lungsod ng Dabaw," Duterte-Carpio said.
Based on the Social Weather Station (SWS) survey on voting preferences for senator from January 17 to 19, Ejercito landed in fourth place.
Re-electionists topped the other four slots, having Senator Loren Legarda as first, second was Senator Francis Escudero, Senator Alan Cayetano as third, while Senators Gregorio Honasan and Koko Pimentel shared the fifth place.
When asked to comment on the high chances that candidates seeking for national position would take advantage of the convention to campaign, Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, PCL-Davao City chapter president, said there's nothing new to it since it's already the norm of all politicians, local or national.
The PCL concluded on Thursday, February 7.
