Teacher nabbed for gun ban violation

POLICE arrested a public school teacher who was armed with a pistol while eating inside an eatery at the corner of Ponce and Suazo streets, Davao City, on Saturday evening.
The suspect was identified as Norbert Johnstone Laureano, a 51-year-old teacher at Sta. Ana National High School and a resident of Catalunan Grande.
Based on the initial investigation conducted by Sta. Ana police, the suspect was inside Station 24 owned by Fiscalizer Paulino Corp. and appeared to be intoxicated with liquor.
While the suspect was eating, another customer noticed that there was a firearm tucked at the waist of the suspect's pants, prompting workers of the eatery to call the police.
When authorities frisked the suspect, they recovered a .45 caliber pistol with six live ammunition.
The suspect was not able to present any permit or license to carry the firearm.
The suspect is now detained at the Sta. Ana police station and is facing raps for violation of the Commission on Election (Comelec) gun ban.
The arrest of the suspect brings the total of arrested Comelec gun ban violators to 36 based on the data from the Police Regional Office-Davao. (Ruji Peter S. Abat)
