More than 2,000 foreigners stay in Davao Region

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) said 2,232 foreigners are legally staying in Davao Region.
Florentino Diputado, BI-Davao Region acting alien control officer, said the data was collected from January 2 to February 22, 2013.
The Alien Registration Act of 1950 requires foreigners staying in the Philippines to report to the BI within the first 60 days of every calendar year.
Chinese nationals comprise the bulk of registered aliens in the city, followed by Americans, Indians, Japanese nationals and Koreans.
The data, so far, is 21 percent lower than last year’s 2,815 foreigners, but the BI expects some more to register.
“They still have one week to report. They should bring their ACR I-card and passports. Paper based ACR are not accepted,” Diputado said.
He said the deadline without penalty is until March 1, 2013 only.
“This is for holders of immigrant and non-immigrant visas. Failure to report is a ground for them to be declared as undesirable aliens,” he said.
