Sun.Star is Ateneo de Davao students' favorite

SUN.STAR Davao earned the distinction of being the favorite local newspaper of students of Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) during the 1st Blue Knight Media Awards held at the school’s Finster Auditorium.

The Favorite Local Newspaper is the only awards category for print media. Sun.Star Davao was pitted against the three other local dailies.

As explained during the awards night, the choice for the favorites was determined through a survey of 381 students from different departments in the university.

DAVAO. Sun.Star Davao editor-in-chief receives the trophy for Favorite Local Newspaper during the 1st Blue Knight Media Awards held at the Ateneo de Davao University last Saturday night. Initiated by Mass Communications students of ADDU, it also recognized broadcast media and personalities. Mindanews was voted the Favorite Local Online News Portal, beating NewsDesk Asia, Davao Today, and News Davaostart.

ABS-CBN programs and personalities brought home most of the awards for both radio and TV. Favorite Local News Program is ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol Southern Mindanao; Paul Palacio, Favorite Local News Anchor; Francis Magbanua, Favorite Local News Reporter; and Claudette Centeno is Favorite Local TV Personality.

Randy Canedo was named Favorite Local AM Radio Personality, while Favorite Local FM Radio Station is MOR, and Favorite Local FM Radio Station Personality is Inday Tanini.

Bombo Radyo is the Favorite Local AM Radio Station.

GMA Davao’s John Paul Seniel was given a special citation for his inroads in independent film-making and documentaries.

The Blue Knight Media Awards is the first local media awarding ceremony from Ateneo since the Tao Awards in 2009, during which Sun.Star Davao was also the favorite newspaper.
