Laborer faces gun ban, theft charges

POLICE filed Wednesday charges before the Davao City Prosecutor's Office (CPO) against a construction worker for keeping a bladed weapon and stealing.
Chief Inspector Angel Sumagaysay, chief of the Toril police, identified the suspect as Albert Francisco Cellona, 20, resident of sitio Via in Barangay Daliao, Toril in Davao City.
Sumagaysay said the suspect was charged with illegal possession of bladed weapon under the Commission on Elections gun ban and theft, adding the suspect was brought before the CPO for inquest proceedings.
Initial investigation conducted by PO2 Barney Batuto said Cellona was arrested around 9 p.m. Tuesday following the report of a security guard of Starburst Marketing on Saavedra Street at Toril Proper, which a theft was inside the establishment.
Elfred Aquino, security of the establishment, caught the suspect stealing many construction materials inside the compound that prompted him to call for police assistance.
The police arrived and arrested the suspect before he was able to run out from the same area.
Recovered from the suspect’s possession were assorted construction materials such as hammer, screw drivers, cutters, nails, and a bolo--measuring around 22 inches, among other materials.
The suspect and the recovered materials are now under the custody of Toril Police Station. (ICT)
