Aids kills 15 in Davao in 2012-A A +A

A TOTAL of 226 cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome ( HIV-Aids) with 15 deaths were recorded in Davao region last year, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.
Based on the data, 176 of the cases were recorded in Davao City, followed by Davao del Norte with 19, Davao del Sur 10, and Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental with three cases each.
A total of 15 persons inflicted with Aids also died last year -- 12 of whom were from Davao City, two from Davao del Sur and one from Compostela Valley.
Since 1984, the DOH-Davao has recorded a total of 577 cases of HIV-Aids with 31 deaths.
Majority of the victims recorded last year are males with 220 and six females.
Majority of the persons inflicted with HIV-Aids are aged 25-34, with 105; 93 cases are aged 15-24; and 27 people aging 35-49.
Of the total number, at least 121 cases were acquired through homosexual mode of transmission.
Meanwhile, 13 victims inflicted last year were Overseas Filipino Workers.
