KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Local officials in Impasug-ong town in Bukidnon province and representatives of the Hedcor, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the AboitizPower Corporation, have signed on Monday a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to build two run-of-river hydroelectric power plants in Northern Mindanao.

Among the signatories to the MOA were Impasug-ong Mayor Mario Okinlay; Ricardo Anlicao, village chief of Barangay Guihean, Impasug-ong; and Boy Jabonillo, Hedcor's vice president for business development.

The MOA signing, based on the statement the AboitizPower issued to media, signals the start of a more detailed feasibility study for the project.

Mayor Okinlay said the hydroelectric plants, set to be constructed in nearby Manolo Fortich town, would help ease Mindanao power crisis.

The river and one of the proposed power plants would pass through Impasug-ong town, according to the project.

Mayor Okinlay, during the signing, urged his constituents to support the project so they would get rid of brownouts.

The Bukidnon province in Northern Mindanao region is experiencing daily load curtailment.

Hedcor intends to build two cascading plants that will source power from the Amusig, Guihean, and Tanaon rivers.

Based on the project, the Manolo Fortich Hydro-1 will have a capacity of 35.2 megawatts (MW) and the Manolo Fortich Hydro-2 will generate 16.4 MW or a total capacity of 51.6 MW. Both plants, data added, can produce annually at least 300 million kilowatt per hour.

Jabonillo ensured local officials of Impasug-ong town that his company, aside from bringing power to the community, would continue to help residents through "sustainable social development programs."

Hedcor, according to its website, www.hedcor.com, is the country's leading run-of-river developer in the Philippines.

In Mindanao, Hedcor manages and operates hydropower plants with a generating capacity of 47 MW.
