MILITARY and police officials said Sunday that they are expecting President Benigno Aquino III to discuss the ongoing peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in his 4th State of the Nation Address (Sona) Monday, July 22.

Deputy commander and spokesperson for the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Captain Severino David said he expects Aquino to address the issue on the prospects of the ongoing peace process with MILF and other armed groups.

David said he also expects the President to talk about the modernization of AFP facilities and the projected growth of the economy, as well as Aquino’s campaign against graft and corruption.

Compostela Valley Police Provincial Office (CVPPO) Director Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao, said he expects Aquino to urge the police officers to improve their performance.

The President, he said, should also be encouraging law enforcers to do their job in accordance to respect for human rights.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director Ronald dela Rosa, on the other hand, refused to share his expectations on the President's Sona.

"Hulaton lang nato. Wa man ta kabalo unsa naa sa iyang huna-huna (We will just have to wait. We don't know what's in his mind,)" Dela Rosa said.

Aquino will be delivering his fourth Sona during a joint session to mark the opening of the first regular session of the 16th Congress of the Philippines Monday. (RPSA)
