TWO landmines with an electric wire were recovered along the road of Purok 3 in Barangay Pangibiran in Mabini, Compostela Valley Saturday.
Major Jacob Thaddeus Obligado, commander of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division’s Civil Military Operations Battalion (CMOBN), said troops belonging to 71st Infantry Battalion (71st IB) recovered the landmines with 72 meters electric wire laid on the area at 10 a.m.
The troops were patrolling the area from their headquarters to Mabini National Highway when they were tipped off about the landmines.
"Immediately after the report, the area was cordoned by the 71st IB personnel for the safety of those passersby and motorists, while said landmines were recovered from the area by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team," Obligado said.
Obligado lambasted the New People’s Army (NPA) anew for what he says is a defiance of the Comprehensive Agreement for the Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (Carhihl) signed by the government and the Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front-NPA.
Citing the landmine incidents in February 13, 2011, Obligado said three innocent civilians were killed in a landmine attack by the communist group in Barangay Libaylibay in Maco. Another landmine exploded at Tibungol Elementary School in Panabo City last August 11.
