CHARGES were filed before the City Prosecutor's Office on Friday against a man who robbed a taxi driver at Indangan, Buhangin, Davao City Wednesday.
Facing charges of robbery with intimidation is Jestoni Lunay Obatonon, a 23-year-old construction worker. Obatanon is facing raps after robbing and threatening to stab a taxi driver identified as Bernabe Bauan Sevilleno.
Investigation conducted by the Buhangin police showed that Sevilleno was flagged down by Obatonon and a companion along J.P. Laurel Ave., asking to be brought to Indangan in Buhangin. Obatonon was seated behind the driver while the companion of the accused was sitting beside the victim.
Upon reaching Indangan, Obatonon pointed an ice pick at Sevilleno’s neck, while the suspect’s companion took some P800 from the victim.
Sevilleno, however, did not let Obatonon go unscathed as well and put up a fight.
The brawl caught the attention of bystanders, giving Sevilleno the opportunity to shout for help.
Obatonon tried to flee but was cornered and mauled by the bystanders. He was brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for treatment of bruises.
Recovered from the possession of Obatonon was an ice pick which he used to intimidate the taxi driver. He is now detained at the Buhangin police station while the recovered weapon will be used as evidence against him in court.
