A MAN is facing charges before the City Prosecutor's Office for mauling a police officer Monday in Barangay Leon Garcia, Agdao, Davao City, and for illegal possession of firearms.
Facing raps for direct assault against a person in authority and illegal possession of firearms is Arnulfo Bersaluna dela Peña, a 20-year-old welder and a resident of Sta. Cruz, Barangay Gov. Duterte.
Dela Peña was charged after punching Police Officer 1 Dennis Badayos of Sta. Ana Police.
Investigation showed that while Badayos along with two other police officers were conducting patrol at the barangay onboard Mobile Patrol 16, an unidentified resident told them a riot is going on further ahead.
The police arrested Dela Peña and found a sumpak tucked in his waist.
But as the policemen were leading him to the police vehicle, Dela Peña punched Badayos in the neck. The two other policemen subdued Dela Peña and locked him up at the Sta. Ana police precinct.
The following day, Dela Pena said he was just drunk and had no intention to assault an officer.
Badayos, however, pressed the charges, as he sustained a bruise on his throat, making it difficult for him to swallow.
The confiscated firearm, meanwhile, will be used as evidence against the suspect in court.
