Duterte leaves for South Korea-A A +A
Friday, September 13, 2013
VICE Mayor Paolo "Pulong" Duterte is now the acting mayor after his father, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, left for South Korea on an official business.
In a memorandum dated September 11, the elder Duterte designated his son to take over as acting mayor from September 13 to 17.
"As such, you shall discharge the functions and duties in accordance with the provisions of Local Government Code of 1991," the memorandum read.
Before he left, Mayor Duterte said nobody from Malacañang contacted him and sought for help to solve the Zamboanga standoff between government forces and followers of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding leader Nur Misuari.
Mayor Duterte also blamed the Government of the Philippines (GPH) peace panel for its failure to include the MNLF in the peace pact with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
"Ang kaning mga taga Manila, mga bugok. Giingnan na nako sila nga do not enter into an agreement with the MILF, forgetting the MNLF (These Manila people (referring to the GPH negotiating panel) are stupid. I told them not to enter into an agreement with MILF without talking to the MNLF). It should be done simultaneously," the mayor said on September 9.
Duterte said this was his "stern warning" given to the government peace panel who sought for his input regarding the peace process sometime ago. (Arianne Caryl N. Casas/Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
