A PUBLIC safety official said on Tuesday that the perpetrators of the twin bomb explosions in two major shopping malls in Davao City Monday night may have bought the bomb materials inside the malls.
Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) chief Francisco Villaroman said: "Yes, it is possible kasi madali lang gumawa ng bomba na IED (because it is easy to make an improvised explosive device)."
Villaroman said the device used inside the cinemas of the two shopping malls is "not comparable" to the bombs used in Cagayan de Oro City on July 26 and in Zamboanga City on September 8.
As of Tuesday, the authorities could still not figure out the groups or individuals involved in the two bombings, but, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte told them not to rush the investigation.
"I don't want to take shortcuts. I do not want to commit error. Let us see what develops," Duterte said.
Meanwhile, the SM City Davao management issued a brief statement on Tuesday afternoon regarding the "minor explosion" that happened inside the Cinema 1 at around 9:03 p.m. Monday.
"An investigation is ongoing and we are working closely with the authorities investigating the incident," a text message from the SM City Davao management read.
Efforts to reach the management of the Gaisano Mall of Davao, on the other hand, proved futile as of posting.
Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte said there is a need to look into all the protocols of the shopping malls in the city.
"Dapat naay sundon na mga lakang para madali nato ug ila kinsa ang nagbuhat (There should be measures to follow in order to identify the perpetrators)," the vice mayor said.
