Council to probe CTO irregularities-A A +A
Wednesday, September 18, 2013
THE 17th City Council is set to look into alleged anomalies committed by eight employees of Davao City Treasurer's Office (CTO).
Councilor Diosdado Mahipus said there is a need for the council to conduct a separate investigation on any irregularities inside the CTO in connection with the P8-million unremitted taxes.
As taxpayers, the council should also investigate where the people's taxes go, Mahipus said.
The City Council may not have a blue ribbon committee but secretary to the City Council Charito Santos said any complaints against erring government employees are referred to the committee on ethics and good governance.
Councilor Bonifacio Militar echoed with the resolution of Mahipus. He said the council should request the City Legal Office (CLO) to transmit the result of the investigation.
Should they not be satisfied with the result, then it is about time to forward it to the appropriate committee.
Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang also said there is a need to “improve the system” in the CTO.
Lawyer Marissa Marasigan-Torentera of the CLO said initial investigation of the CLO found cause against the employees on the complaint for grave misconduct and dishonesty.
