A WORKER of a mining company was shot dead by an unidentified assailant on Saturday at Deca Homes in Indangan, Buhangin in Davao City.
Police identified the victim as Nathaniel Tanoja, 56, who works with the Philsaga Mining Corp., and resident of Purok San Roque in Barangay Mudian in Bunawan District.
Records from the Buhangin police showed that a certain Antonio Alpitse Medenia, a construction worker, heard a single shot coming from the area.
When he checked on the area, Medenia said he found the victim lying on the ground beside a motorcycle. The victim, however, was declared dead on arrival at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
"The victim succumbed to a lone gunshot wound at the back wherein the bullet exited on his left chest," Supt. Ruben Ramos, chief of the Buhangin police, said.
He added that the station is now conducting an investigation on the matter.
When asked if the incident has something to do with the work of the victim, Ramos said the death of the victim might be associated to family issues. He said a love triangle is the possible motive behind the incident.
"May mga natatanggap kami na madalas pala nag-aaway daw itong biktima at misis niya ng dahil sa isang lalaki. Balita namin meron daw iba itong misis, at yun muna ang tinitignan naming angulo sa pag ka matay nung biktima," Ramos said.
Ramos also said that based on their initial investigation, the victim received several threats from an unidentified person prior to the incident. He added that they have no idea yet as to the identity and whereabouts of the suspect.
