Errant CTO personnel may face removal-A A +A

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said Friday that he might recommend the dismissal of the eight errant personnel of the City Treasurer's Office (CTO) should they be proven guilty of committing corruption.
"Automatic yan," he told reporters after the opening program of the Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) orientation training course Friday at the Davao City Police Office covered court.
Aside from dismissal from office, he would also want to suggest "criminal prosecution" against the eight, whose names have still not been released to the public.
The controversy inside the CTO happened in June this year.
Lawyer Marissa Marasigan-Torentera of the City Legal Office (CLO) said their initial investigation found cause against the employees on the complaint for grave misconduct and dishonesty.
The irregularity inside the CTO that the CLO has investigated is the P8-million unremitted taxes.
City administrator Melchor Quitain said the report was already forwarded to him and he is set to hand it to Duterte, whom he said will have the final decision over the complaint.
He said the most possible sanction imposed against the eight will be preventive suspension of up to six months.
"I have to give my report first to the mayor. After that, we will tell the public what it's all about," Quitain said, adding that the mayor's recommended action is expected to be released next week.
The employees involved in the anomaly were already pulled out from their former duty and were reassigned.
