A TAXI driver is facing charges before the City Prosecutor's Office for allegedly trying to run over a traffic enforcer in front of the Gaisano Mall of Davao along J. P. Laurel Ave., Davao City last September 21.
Facing charges of attempted homicide is Marlito Paloma Mendez, a 44-year-old taxi driver, and a resident of Veteran's Village in Panacan. Mendez was charged after trying to run over Dexter Berlanas, a 27-year-old traffic enforcer, from Palanca Village, Matina.
Investigation conducted by Sta. Ana police showed that the incident took place around 5 p.m. The victim was directing traffic at the said area when he saw his co-traffic enforcer flag down the suspect. The latter, however, accelerated instead, prompting the victim to approach the suspect.
Mendez did not stop even as Berlanas blocked his way, hitting Berlanas’ leg.
The suspect was apprehended by responding police officers from the Sta. Ana police.
The suspect is now detained at the Sta. Ana police. The complainant may also pursue a direct assault against a person in authority.
