Cabbie faces raps for assault on cop-A A +A

CHARGES have been filed before the City Prosecutor's Office (CPO) against a taxi driver who assaulted a police officer Thursday on Saavedra St., Toril, Davao City.
Facing charges for direct assault against a person in authority under Article 152 of the Revised Penal Code is Yves Abastas Ubod, 23, of Binugao, Toril. Ubod is accused of assaulting Police Officer 3 Vivencio Virtudazo.
Investigation conducted by Toril police showed that Virtudazo was controlling the flow of traffic in the area when he saw the suspect's taxi obstructing the traffic flow. When the police officer approached the taxi, he saw Ubod smoking a cigarette inside.
Virtudazo then told the suspect of his violation, but the latter picked up a bottle of beer and hit Virtudazo on the head.
The police officer was taken to the St. John Hospital after suffering a severe contusion on his right brow, while the suspect alighted from his vehicle and tried to flee.
Operatives of Toril police arrested the suspect, who was shortly found hiding inside a culvert in the area.
The suspect is currently detained at Toril Police Station. The weapon used by the suspect was already documented, while Virtudazo already submitted his affidavit and result of medical examination which will be used as evidence against the suspect.
Apart from direct assault charges, Ubod may also face penalties for violation of the City Ordinance No. 0367-12-2012 otherwise known as the New Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance.
