DAVAO City bagged the 2012 National Best Public Employment Services Office (Peso) for highly urbanized category.
This is the second time that the city received such award. The first was in 2011.
Department of Labor and Employment regional director Joffrey Suyao said there were around 12 cities vying for the award under highly urbanized category.
The city tied with Quezon City, he said.
Suyao presented the award in front of the Davao City’s officials and employees during Monday’s flag ceremony.
He said the city is vying for its straight three years next year.
“Hopefully, it will again win next year for third time para Hall of Fame na,” Suyao said.
Among the highlights of the 2012 accomplishments, Suyao said, includes: Institutionalized Peso 2012, recognizing Councilor Edgar Ibuyan Sr. as the father for passing an ordinance supporting the city’s Peso; top performing Peso in the implementation of Jobs Fair (22 jobs fair conducted); top performer of Labor Market Information Program; awarded as “The most job vacancies posted in Phil-Jobnet (with 75,000 vacancies posted); only city that implemented all year round Special Program for Employment of Students (with 16 participating agencies and 774 SPES grantees); and Special Recruitment Authority (which assisted 193 agencies).
Lilibeth Pantinople, Peso-Davao head, said they need to double their efforts to achieve the Hall of Fame award next year.
She said she hopes the city will allocate more funds in their programs especially for Special Program for Employment of Students.
Meanwhile, Suyao said Tagum City also bagged the best Peso for component city category. (Arianne Caryl N. Casas/Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
