POLICEMEN shot dead a suspected robber after he resisted arrest at sitio Quarry in Tugbok Proper, Davao City Tuesday.
A member of the Scene of the Crime Operative (Soco) identified the suspect as one Abdul Asrael Alian, 42, from General Santos City, and a transient resident in Davao City.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director Ronald dela Rosa, in a text message, said the slain suspect was responsible for the series of robbery incidents in some areas in the city.
Dela Rosa said Alian was caught by a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera in one of the houses he was accused of robbing.
Dela Rosa said the suspect was killed around 11:45 a.m. Recovered from the possession of the suspect were a knife, a hand grenade, a screw driver, and a 14-inch Samsung television flat screen.
Initial investigation conducted by the Tugbok police prior to the incident showed that the suspect was caught by Nelson Agustin, a security guard and assistant officer in charge at Deca Homes Resident Resort, robbing an unattended house at Phase 5 Block 87 Lot 10. The guard accosted the suspect, but the latter pulled out a knife and tried to stab Agustin.
The suspect fled to Barangay Tugbok Proper, while the guard reported the incident to the police.
An hour after, the Tugbok police received a call that there was an ongoing robbery incident at Purok Mahayahay.
"While the operatives were conducting pursuit operation from Deca Homes, they proceeded to Purok Mahayahay and chased the suspect. The police were able to corner the suspect at Purok 12 at Sitio Quary," Dela Rosa said.
When the police were convincing the suspect to surrender, the suspect instead pulled-out a hand grenade that prompted the arresting officers to shot him.
The body of the suspect was brought in a nearby funeral home.
