DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) Senior Superintendent Ronald dela Rosa earned the monicker “darling of the press,” while attending to the serious task of securing the city.
“Tingala lagi ko ngano gihimo ko ninyo ug darling. I’m just being me, being true to myself. Namakak ba ko sa inyoha? Wala, diba? Nag atik-atik ba ko sa inyoha? Wala. Gisulti nako tanan sa inyoha mao siguro giganahan mo nako kay prangka ko. Kung dili nako kaya o nipalpak ko, angkunon nako. Pero naay pakapin na mubawi ra ko next time (I don’t know why you made me your darling. I’m just being me. I simply did not lie nor deceived you. I told you the facts, maybe that’s why you like me because I’m frank. I admitted my mistakes with an assurance that I will do better next time),” dela Rosa said during the turn-over ceremony of the 42 new patrol vehicles for the DCPO on Saturday.
Dela Rosa recalled the many times when the media would contact him during midnight or dawn.
“Giganahan kog maayo sa akong trabaho. Giganahan ko sa media. Kamo nagpasikat sa ako. Maski mga anak nako nangutana nako ‘What’s wrong with you, Dad?’ kay maski kinsa, bisan asa naay magpa-picture nako (I enjoyed my work, and so you enjoyed covering me. You were the ones who made me popular. Even my child asks me, ‘What’s wrong with you, dad?’ because people would ask to have their photos taken with me),” he said.
He said one thing he will surely miss when he leave is “ang kakulit sa media (media’s persistence).”
Dela Rosa will be transferred to Camp Crame where he will be assigned as chief of staff of the Intelligence Unit.
He is replaced as DCPO chief by Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr. of the Police Regional Office's Regional Logistics and Research Development Division in Davao Region.
Dela Rosa advised Danao to “be good” to the members of the press by being true to oneself.
