GROUPS of prosecutors demand for a "no nonsense investigation" on the grenade-throwing explosion inside their co-fiscal's house in Digos City, Davao del Sur on Monday.
"It is quite disturbing that this grenade-throwing incident had for its intended victim no less than the highest ranking officer of the National Prosecution Service of the Department of Justice in the Province of Davao del Sur," said regional prosecutor Antonio Arellano, national vice-president of the Chief Prosecutors Association of the Philippines (Cprosa) and Prosecutors League of the Philippines (PLP) vice president for Mindanao.
A PRB fragmentation hand grenade was thrown and exploded on the ground of the residence of Davao del Sur Provincial Prosecutor Artemio A. Tajon around 1 a.m. of Oct. 28.
The explosion damaged a portion of the fiscal's house and wrecked his vehicles parked inside a residential compound along Estrada St. in the village of Zone 2, Digos City.
In a statement emailed to Sun.Star Davao, Arellano said the Cprosa and PLP with the National Prosecution Service of the Department of Justice "jointly condemn this senseless and dastardly act of violence".
"We also join the various sectors of the community and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Davao del Sur Chapter, in the call for a no nonsense investigation into the incident," he said.
In behalf of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Davao del Sur, chapter president lawyer Israelito Torreon earlier said they condemn the "brazen act of violence" committed against Tajon.
"The PNP (Philippine National Police) is earnestly requesting a thorough investigation on the matter so that the perpetrators and mastermind of this grievous act will be unmasked and thereby prosecuted to the fullest extent under the law," Torreon said.
Based on initial police investigation, a fragmentation grenade was lobbed at Tahon's residence.
Police said the person who threw the grenade used a black pick-up truck as get-away vehicle.
