No comparison, Pasko Fiesta official says of 2012, 2013-A A +A
Tuesday, December 3, 2013
AN OFFICIAL for the Pasko Fiesta 2013 said Monday there is no comparison between this year’s celebration and that of last year when the City Government of Davao partnered with a private group saying that minimal budget this year does not necessarily mean a poor output.
"Last year dako ang budget, but for this year P3 million.
Given that, unfair man pud kung mag compare ka nga dili man bibo karon kumpara sa last year. Dili man hinungdan ang Duaw. The context of the entire celebration is that Mayor Rody (Rodrigo Duterte) just scaled down the celebration because of what is going on sa atong mga kaigsuonan sa Visayas (It is unfair to compare and say that this year's celebration will not be as festive and joyous as last year. It's not because of Duaw Davao Festival Inc.)," Oscar Casaysay, Pasko Fiesta 2013 coordinator, said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at The Annex of SM City Davao Monday.
There will be comparisons. However, we just aim for a peaceful and more festive celebration in Davao, he said.
In an earlier interview, assistant city administrator for operations lawyer Jhopee Avanceña-Agustin revealed to Sun.Star Davao that the city government will no longer partner with its two-year private partner Duaw Davao Festival Foundation Inc. for this year's celebration of Pasko Fiesta.
She said the P3-million budget for the Pasko Fiesta will be solely funded by the City Government.
The Duaw Davao Festival Inc. has been the city's private-partner in its major events, such as the Araw ng Dabaw in March, Summer Fest in April-May, Kadayawan in August, and Pasko Fiesta every December since 2011.
Casaysay said that Duterte recognized the fact that preparations will be faster if the city itself handles the celebration.
Meanwhile, Carol Valdez, officer-in-charge of Duaw, said the participation of the Duaw in the festivals of the city is "upon the invitation of the city mayor."
"We offer our services when invited," Valdez told Sun.Star Davao in a text message Monday.
This year's Pasko Fiesta theme is "Kalinaw ug Kahusay: Diwa Kanunay sa Pasko sa Dabaw."
Casaysay said the city is preparing for the Dan-ag Dabaw opening program on Friday, December 6, at the Rizal Park at 5 p.m.
All Christmas lights and lanterns will be simultaneously lighted up during the program, he said. <>b(Arianne Caryl N. Casas/Sun.Star Davao)
