DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte confirmed on Thursday the resignation of Traffic Management Center (TMC) officer-in-charge retired Colonel Dionisio Abude.
"He has expressed a desire really to be retired. As in retired. He wants to spend time with his family, ingon niya. I really do not know but that was the reason that he gave us," Duterte told reporters in an interview at Marco Polo Hotel Thursday evening.
Abude's resignation will take effect in January 2014, he said.
Duterte said he told Abude to give them time to adjust and look for a replacement.
However, the mayor decided to transfer the TMC to the Davao City Traffic Division which will be headed by a "regular police officer."
Meanwhile, Abude, who was appointed by Duterte to head the TMC five months ago, refused to comment on the issue in a phone interview.
"Dili sa ko mag confirm ug dili sa pud ko mo deny. Gusto ko ug proper na pag tubag in proper time (I won't confirm nor deny it. I will speak in proper time)," Abude said.
In a separate interview, City Human Resource and Management Office (HRMO) head Erwin Alparaque said he has not received any notice regarding Abude's resignation.
"There was no verbal instruction nor written explanation sent to me as of today," Alparaque said.
In fact, he said Abude even attended the department head's meeting Thursday morning.
Abude assumed post in July this year, replacing Ret. Col. Desiderio Cloribel.
