AGENTS of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Davao region arrested two suspected notorious drug pushers in a buy-bust operation at Purok 14, Feeder Road 4 in Barangay Tibal-og in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte on Sunday noon.
PDEA regional public information officer Noli Nephi D. Dimaandal, identified the two suspects as Albert Batucan Cabase, 42, a farmer and also businessman; and Orchedia Ortiz Royo, 38, both residents of Barangay Tibal-og in Sto. Tomas.
Members of the PDEA along with the Sto. Tomas Municipal Police Station arrested the suspects.
Dimaandal said recovered from the possession of the suspects were three sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, and P1,000 marked money.
Dimaandal said the team arrested the suspects after Cabase sold a sachet of suspected shabu to their agent who acted as poseur buyer. He added that it took them a month of casing and surveillance before the operation was conducted.
Both suspects are now temporarily detained at the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) jail while the seized suspected illegal drugs were submitted to the PDEA for laboratory test.
Dimaandal said the two suspects will be charged for violation of Section 26 (Conspiracy) in relation to Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Drugs) of the Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
PDEA regional director Emerson R. Rosales, on the other hand, said their office has noted 678 individuals arrested for illegal drugs, of which 66 are women and 612 are men, this year. He added that there were 531 arrested in 2012.
Rosales said their continuous operation also seized 2.07 kilos of suspected shabu worth P20.7 million and several marijuana worth P60,200 from persons arrested since January this year.
Rosales stressed that the growing number of arrested individuals and drugs seized are attributed to the joint efforts of concerned citizens and government agencies.
