DAVAO CITY -- Police recovered some P2.2 million worth of illegal drugs from a woman accused of being a drug dealer and was arrested in a buy-bust operation at a dormitory at corner Padre Faura and Jacinto Streets in this city Tuesday evening.
The woman was identified as Babonsalam Ambung Casser, alias Madam, 30, a native of Iligan City.
Casser was arrested in a buy-bust operation launched by the Davao City Police Office Investigation and Detection Management Branch (DCPO-IDMB) led by Superintendent Antonio Rivera around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday at Vincent de Paul Dormitel.
The arrest was made after the suspect handed over one teabag-sized heat-sealed plastic sachet containing shabu worth P35,000 to a police officer who acted as buyer.
Also recovered from her possession were three jumbo-sized plastic sachets, two half jumbo-sized plastic sachets, and four teabag-sized sachets all containing shabu.
DCPO Director Vicente Danao, in an interview on Wednesday, said the suspect is one of the big-time drug pushers whom Mayor Rodrigo Duterte cited during the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Davao 4th Annual Regional Awards.
He said Duterte personally went to the DCPO-IDMB office after the arrest of the suspect.
He added that Casser took the legal services of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Davao del Sur chapter president Israelito Torreon.
Wednesday’s arrest was the biggest drug bust since Danao took over as chief of the DCPO on October 25.
Casser is currently detained at the DCPO detention facility while the seized drugs were endorsed to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory-Davao for examination.
The suspect is set to be charged for violation of the Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
