POLICE are set to file charges before the City Prosecutor's Office against a man arrested for hacking a Traffic Management Center (TMC) enforcer dead at Crossing Bayabas, Toril, Davao City on Thursday.
Facing murder charges is Junie Lamanilao Sumabong, 27, of Marapangi, Toril. Sumabong will be charged for killing Julan Gentapa, a TMC enforcer and a resident of Central 1, Binugao, Toril.
Investigation conducted by Toril police revealed that the incident happened around 3:45 p.m. The victim was controlling the congestion of traffic at the middle of McArthur Highway when the suspect attacked him from behind. The suspect struck the victim on his neck with the use of a scythe. When the victim fell to the ground, Sumabong continued to hack Gentapa hitting the latter's back.
Sumabong was arrested on the spot by responding police officers of Toril police while the victim was rushed to the Malta District Hospital in Toril. The victim, however, was declared dead upon arrival by attending physician Randy Yson.
Further investigation disclosed that the incident may have stemmed from the previous apprehension of Sumabong.
On December 16, Sumabong was reportedly arrested by TMC enforcer Leonar Pantinople while driving his motorcycle at the corner of Talomo and Puan. Pantinople impounded the motorcycle of Sumabong for various traffic violations. Sumabong wanted to retaliate yet the suspect may have mistaken Gentapa as the TMC enforcer who arrested him.
Sumabong is currently detained at Toril police station while police are preparing the murder charges against him.
