THE Police Regional Office in Davao Region (PRO-11) held Monday the muzzle-taping of firearms of its personnel at Camp Quintin Merecido in Catitipan in Davao City.
"This was in line with the order of the national headquarters to conduct a simultaneous muzzle-taping of the firearms. Policemen were reminded not to engage in indiscriminate firing during the Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations," said PRO Director Chief Superintendent Wency Pascual, who spearheaded the activity.
Pascual said all the firearms of the provincial and city police office under PRO 11 should be sealed effective December 23 until January 2, 2014.
He said anyone who will resist or violate the rule will face appropriate charges for illegal discharge of firearms.
"Kung saka-sakali man mapatunayan na may involved sa indiscriminate firing, that man will be subjected to dismissal. The ‘seal-off’ will be after the New Year, and I will inspect all the firearms of our men here," Pascual said.
He added that policemen can still use their guns even when the muzzles are taped, but only for official duties.
The police director also reminded the police personnel that drinking alcoholic beverages should be taken in moderation especially that all of them are required to do their duty 24 hours even in the Yuletide Season.
Pascual assured police visibility and checkpoints all around the region, saying the region is placed under heightened alert to ensure the security of the people.
