Sunday, January 5, 2014
DAVAO City will extend legal assistance for victims of overspeeding drivers as the city mayor vowed to put behind bars those who break the speed limits and throw the books at them.
“The City Government will fund your case para gukdon ni. Kasuhan ta gyud mo (The city will paye for litigation. I will sue violators),” he said.
The mayor said he would like to see all violators behind bars, so they can experience how it is to be jailed.
“I want you inside kay maayo ang environment diha sa prisohan. Limpyo kaayo na. Mga ilaga diha dagko kaayo na, murag kabaw kadako. Hala! Dumoga na (The environment in jail is very good. It’s very clean. The rats there are as big as carabaos, just you wait),” Duterte jested.
First to land in jail will be those who are drunk or high on drugs.
“If you smell of alcohol, or ang pulis nag suspetsa naka droga ka, you will not be released. You will be asked to park properly sa highway and the police will take care of that (vehicle) for you. Dad-on ka sa hospital, sobriety test or a drug test,” Duterte said in his Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa show aired Sunday morning.
He wants all drunk drivers behind bars and vowed to go after policemen who will release a drunk driver immediately.
“Kamong mga police, ug inyong dakpon na makit-an nako na sila sa gawas, hasta ikaw isulod tamo sa prisohan ug dungan (I’m reminding policemen who arrest a drunk driver, if I see this driver outside jail, I will put you in jail with him),” he added.
A video was aired Sunday showing several road accidents caused by an overspeeding vehicle.
It showed that most of the gruesome accidents are perpetrated by motorcycle drivers.
“Sila kadaghanan kay sila man pud dali mamatay. Kadtong dili mutuman sa balaod, malipay ko mamatay mo (Motorcycle drivers are the ones who figure most in accidents because they are the ones who are at greater risk of death. I will be happy if all violators die),” Duterte said.
