POLICE filed charges before the City Prosecutor’s Office of Samal on Monday against a man for carrying a firearm without permit.
Babak Police Substation chief Melchorito Jala identified the suspect as Juvane Allerito Nuñez, 36, jobless, a resident of Km. 13 at Zone 2 in Panacan in Davao City.
Nuñez was charged with violation of the Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) before Prosecutor Joseph Apao.
Personnel of the Babak Police Substation arrested the suspect in a random checkpoint in Barangay Miranda of Babak District in the Island Garden City of Samal on Sunday around 5:10 p.m.
Recovered from the suspect was a 9mm Tanfoglio handgun loaded with 10 live bullets.
The suspect is currently detained at the Babak Police Substation for his proper disposition.
Superintendent Roland Agohob, chief of the Samal Police Station, said that while suspect has the license for his firearm, he can still be arrested for not having a permit to carry firearm outside residence.
"Let me remind you -- licensed gun holders, you cannot carry your gun outside your house without permit. Only the law enforcers and those who're given permit to carry firearms are allowed to carry their gun outside the house for legal purposes," Agohob said.
Agohob added that anyone who will defy the law will be arrested and charged. (Ivy C. Tejano/Sun.Star Davao)
