THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is closely monitoring individuals involved in carnapping, gun-running, and other crime syndicates in Davao Region following the recent arrest of a suspected carnap leader and gunrunner.

CIDG-Davao Director Joel Pernito, in an interview, said its unit has identified a number of active carnapping and gun-running syndicates operating in Davao Region, particularly in Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte.

"We are tracking down the members of these syndicates. We can’t divulge the numbers of persons or groups namo-monitor namin but rest assured that our men are doing their job to help the other law enforcers curb the criminalities in the region," Pernito said.

In the case of Raniel Diamonon Nacario, alleged to be a leader of the Dagul Carnapping Syndicate, Pernito said its group has been long operating in Davao del Sur and Sarangani Province. He added that most of its target units are motorcycles and some automobiles.

As to the gun-running syndicate, when asked if there’s any of it operating in Davao City, Pernito said he could not confirm the matter, though its personnel arrested one in San Antonio Village in Matina.

CIDG Davao City Special Operation team leader Senior Inspector Francis Sonza, on the other hand, said as far as he know, most of the gunrunners they monitored were from Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte.

"I don't think there is a big time gun-running or even carnapping syndicate based here in the city. Sa case ni Willie Bustamante Francisco, the one arrested in Matina, pupwedeng gawa niya or in-order niya from other area," Sonza said of the guns seized from the suspect’s possession.

Sonza added that based on their initial investigation, gunrunners are supplying firearms from Sta. Cruz in Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, and Cebu City. He also said guns are sold at low prices, just around P2,000.

Pernito said its unit is already conducting thorough investigation, including other crime syndicates and the recent issue on rice smuggling here. He said they are coordinating with other law enforcers on this case.

Pernito also directed all his personnel to double their efforts for the crime solution efficiency and peace and security of the public.
