MATANAO, Davao del Sur -- Natividad family in Barangay Kapoc here was surprised when the cow they're tending gave birth to a six-legged calf.

The calf was born with four front legs and two hind legs. The six-legged calf generated much attention from residents in the area.

The family has to feed the calf using feeding bottles as it cannot support its own body.

Aside from having six legs, the calf is also cross-eyed and its tail is located not on its backside, but rather near its thigh.

The family asked the government for support in raising the rare six-legged calf they named as "Baby Baka."

"Baby Baka" is already the fifth cow delivered by its mother in nine years, and the first among its brood with physical deformities.

Dr. Lisa Mae Rapisura, of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), said the cow like "Baby Baka," born with congenital defects only has 70 percent chance of survival.

PVO is planning to monitor the condition of the cow and give it supplements and medicines. (Orlando B. Dinoy)
