Duterte not informed of councilor's resignation-A A +A
Saturday, February 1, 2014
DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said Councilor Joanne Bonguyan did not inform him earlier of her resignation from all the committees in the 17th City Council.
"If she does not want a committee to work on, wala koy reaction ana. Wala ko kabalo unsay rason diha. Hindi siya nagbigay ng reaction sa akin (I don't have any reaction. I don;t know the reason why she resigned) ," Duterte said.
Bonguyan tendered her resignation from all the committee posts she occupied last January 28.
Her reason was not stated in the letter, according to Floor leader Tomas Monteverde IV.
Bonguyan was chairperson of the committee on information and communication technology, vice chairperson of the committee on social services, and a member of the committees on women, children and family relations, youth and sports, and publication.
Since there are vacancies, Monteverde said they had to fill these up through an election.
Thus, the new chairman for committee on information and communication is Councilor Nilo Abellera Jr., vice chairman for committee on social services is Councilor Leonardo Avila.
Elected member of committee on women, children and family relations is Mabel Sunga Acosta, for youth and sports is Edgar Ibuyan Sr., while for publication is Jimmy Dureza.
Duterte said councilors can still perform their duties as public servants even without any assigned committee.
Meanwhile, Bonguyan remains mum on her resignation.
Her letter, which was addressed to Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, was restricted to the media.
There are already two councilors who no longer handle any single committee in the 17th City Council -- Councilors Bonguyan and Diosdado Mahipus Sr.
