DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) Director Vicente D. Danao Jr. made a surprise inspection of 42 motorcycles issued to policemen on mobile patrol on Monday.
The inspection was conducted to ensure that DCPO personnel are not using modified mufflers on their motorcycles.
Danao initiated the inspection as part of DCPO's campaign against the use of modified mufflers, dubbed as "Oplan Baklas Bora-Bora."
"I want to make sure that our law enforcers are not violating the laws we are implementing to the public. I don't want to see my personnel who are peacemakers tapos sila pala gumagamit din ng mga modified mufflers or carnapped vehicles," Danao said.
He said he received reports that some policemen are driving motorcycles installed with modified mufflers thus the inspection. But he added that the inspection serves another purpose aside from the bora-bora -- to determine whether the motorcycles are carnapped.
"Panigurado lang naman... kasi alam mo naman hindi maiwasan na may mga taong nagsasabi na itong mga pulis nanghuhuli tapos sila din pala ganito ganyan, at kung ano pa'ng sinasabi, which is not true. Sabi ko nga, cleansing should start from within," Danao said.
He said aside from inspecting the plate numbers of the motorcycles, he also asked for the official receipt and certificate of registration (OR-CR) of the motorcycles to determine whether it was purchased legally.
Danao said that so far, none of the DCPO personnel has violated the law.
He said that time and again, members of DCPO are reminded of their commitment and responsibility.
He also said this is the first inspection he made this year, and he will continue it until his term ends.
