THE Sta. Ana police filed before the City Prosecutor’s Office on Friday a kidnapping complaint against the 60-year-old woman who turned over the two-year-old girl she abducted inside a mall in Davao City.

The filing came after an infuriated Mayor Rodrigo Duterte recommended Thursday evening the filing of charges against the suspect.

Sta. Ana police station commander Superintendent Caezar Cabuhat said they filed the charges against Deodita Antero, of Ruiz Village in Barangay San Antonio, Agdao, for violation of Article 267 (kidnapping and serious illegal detention) of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Republic Act (RA) 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

Antero was charged after she allegedly took a two-year-old girl home and held her for three days. The girl was reported missing Monday after her mother, Erika Campana, reported to Sta. Ana police that her daughter went missing inside a shopping mall in the city.

But Duterte, during the turnover of the child to her parents at Conching's Restaurant on Mabini St. on Thursday night, acknowledged that the incident was not kidnapping but rather a case of serious illegal detention.

The suspect, in her defense, said she was just playing with the kid and she decided to take the child with her upon knowing that her parents were not around.

She also told Duterte that she was just waiting for a contact number from anyone who would be looking for the child.

Antero, however, admitted that she was fond of the child that she even cut the girl's hair.

But Duterte was not convinced with her statement and told Anterto, "Makakita gani ka ug bata o kwarta o bag ba diha, ihatag nimo na sa pulis. Ngano wa man nimo na gihatag ngadto sa security guard sa Gaisano o sa management? Gi-diretso unta nimo sa pulis (If you find a child, money or say a bag, you give it to the police. Why didn't you turn her over to the security guard of Gaisano or to the management? You should have directed her to the police)."

Cabuhat said Antero also owned up to the killing of her husband, but they are yet to confirm her confession.

"Nakapagsabi siya na napatay daw niya ang kanyang mister nung 27 years old pa siya. But according to her, kaya daw niya nagawa iyon dahil madalas daw siyang binubugbog. Concern din namin to kaso wala pa kaming hard evidence na makakapagpatunay sa sinabi niya (She told us that she killed her husband when she was still 27. But according to her, she was forced to do so as she was often beaten up by his husband. This is also our concern but we have yet to get hard evidence to support her claim)," Cabuhat said.

Antero is currently detained at the Sta. Ana police station.
