LOCAL authorities are currently monitoring 10 more cybersex dens in Davao Region after charges were filed before the prosecutor’s office against the two women arrested for operating a cybersex den at Purok 26 in Barangay 76-A Bucana, Davao City.

Charged were April Lyn Sinasap, 24, and her sister Kristin Abaro-Sinasap, 30, for violating Republic Act (RA) 9775 or The Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009, RA 9208 or The Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012, and RA 7610 or The Anti-Child Abuse.

The two accused were also charged with violation of the RA 10591 or The Comprehensive Firearms Law, after the authorities recovered one homemade gun at the cybersex den.

In a press conference at Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Davao Region office on Monday, Chief Inspector Crisle T. Cainong, chief of the Anti-Cyber Crime Group (ACCG), said that of the 10 cybersex dens operating in the region, eight are being monitored in Davao City.

"We have at least 10 (cybersex den) targets na binabantayan namin, eight are in Davao City. As to the other two areas, we rather not mention anything about it, for now. What is important, namu-monitor natin sila," Cainong told the media.

Cainong also raised alarm on the proliferation of the so-called peso-net, as this is one of the reasons that the number of cybersex dens is growing in Davao Region. He said anyone can commit the act and earn thousands of cash at a very minimal cost of P1 Internet access.

"Ang mas nakakatakot dito, dahil sa proliferation of the peso-net, kasi ayun sa suspects nag umpisa silang nag-perform gamit ang kanilang pamangkin at anak through peso-net. Kung naglipana yan dyan sa squatter areas, may tendency na maging lodge nila ito," Caninong said.

The officer said victims were advised to perform via Skype or Yahoo Messenger, to their foreign clients for P12,000 or more, and this depends on the performance and age of the performer.

"Na confirm namin ito through the receipts we recovered from the suspects' den at napag-alaman din namin na pinapadala usually ang pera through Western Union," Cainong said, adding that the unit is having a problem in obtaining the names of the clients.

Cahinong added, "Mahirap dahil ayaw ibigay ng Western Union yung transaction list ng suspects with their clients. The main reason of the suspects kung bakit nila ito ginagawa is poverty, which is something the government should address not only by the authorities."

Inspector Irish Malait, deputy chief of PRO's Women and Children's Protection Desk, said the region recorded the youngest rescued minor is two years old and the eldest is 16 years old.

She added that the seven minors rescued on Saturday afternoon are currently in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office, for intervention and rehabilitation.

Malait said their office had recorded 11 cases of trafficking in persons that had been filed in court in 2013, of which six are from Davao City Police Office and five are from Davao del Norte Provincial Police Office.

Police Regional Office spokesperson Jed Clamor, on the other hand, said the region is continuously working hand-in-hand with other government agencies so as to prevent and arrest those individuals involved in the crime.
