More difficult licensing procedures up for drivers-A A +A

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Davao Region will require more seminars, trainings, and tests for those who will be applying for a driver's license.
The Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) head Francisco Villaroman urged LTO-Davao Region to tighten the issuance of the driver's license for applicants, especially for motorcycle drivers.
LTO Director lawyer Gomer Dy said they are already drafting the syllabus for the Driver's Education Program.
The tests will not only be inclusive of drug test and physical examination, as they are also planning to include an Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and psychiatric tests.
"A driver should have an IQ regardless if it’s on the boundary. Driving is a continuous act of judgment and the judgment should always be right to prevent accidents," Dy said.
He added that motorcycles will have a separate series of trainings, noting that motorcycle drivers should be more skilled considering that they are handling a riskier type of vehicle.
Dy, however, did not disclose when the stricter issuance of driver's license will be implemented but they are hoping that they could finish the reform sooner to filter out those who would be deemed reckless drivers.
But while the issuance of new driver's licenses will soon become stiffer, Dy said the renewal will be much easier for those who have already undergone the reformed licensing system. It would only take five to 10 minutes for their licenses to be renewed.
