DAVAO CITY -- Television evangelist Pastor Apollo Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ said on Friday that he dreamt about Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as the president of the Philippines long time ago.

However, Quiboloy said he will never force the mayor to become one since Duterte already manifested his serious decline for the position.

"Sixteen years ago, I had a dream. I was invited by the mayor. He took me here by plane going to Manila. When I arrived, I was brought directly to Malacañang, where I played golf with him. While we were playing, mitan-aw ko sa iya. Ana ko sa akong sarili, 'mayor man ni sa Davao City, nganong na presidente naman ni?' (I looked at him and asked myself 'This guy beside me is the mayor of Davao City, how come he's now the president?)," Quiboloy said after his “Give Us This Day” show, where Duterte was his guest last Friday.

Although Duterte does not want the position, Quiboloy said his friend deserves the post due to his "unique leadership and stance against lawless people."

He said he will continue to pray for the leadership of the mayor and only God has the power to change the mind of Duterte.

"Para sa akoa, ang nagabuot sa tanan butang sa kalibutan, ang Diyos. Kung pagbu-ot niya si Mayor Duterte maoy sunod nga mahimong president sa Pilipinas, ang Diyos ang mag himo ana (Let us live that faith in the hands of God)," he said.

Duterte, during his guesting at the Give Us This Day show, publicly asked Quiboloy never to pray for him to become president.

Duterte reiterated he cannot handle the number of responsibilities and duties of being the president.

"Kaila man ka nako Pastor, dili man nako na kaya. Pag mudagan gud kag president, you will need P15 to P20 million. Asa man ko mag kuha ana? Ang kwarta nako tama-tama ra para sa akong retirement. It's a wild dream (You know me, I can't handle that. Also, if you run for president you'd need at least P15-20-million. I only have enough for my retirement)," he said.

During the program, Quiboloy read Duterte some Bible verses about good leadership - Ecclesiastes 8: 11 and Romans 13: 1-6. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
