THE City Government of Davao will still hold the Sayawan sa Dan competition along San Pedro St., and not at the People’s Park, but it should be until 5 p.m. only.
After thorough discussions on the overall safety and security for the Araw ng Davao 2014, particularly the Sayawan sa Dan, which is one of the highlights for the celebration, the local government and the operatives here decided to stick with the plan that has been agreed by the executive committee.
“Same pa rin ang ruta. Walang changes. Huwag lang paabutin ng gabi,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Senior Superintendent Vicente D. Danao Jr. said.
Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) chief Retired general Francisco Villaroman also gave the same directive.
“Pero pag hindi pa natapos lahat at gabi na, sagutin na ‘yan ng organizer. Basta yung sa amin, huwag lang talaga abutin ng dilim kasi mga bata yun eh,” Villaroman said.
Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, official spokesperson for Araw ng Davao 2014, said there will be a total of eight contingents for the Sayawan sa Dan.
The Sayawan sa Dan will be on March 15, Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said there will be checkpoints, and the liquor ban and the curfew will stay.
“I can assure you that everybody there in the checkpoint will be courteous. I will ask the government people to do it with a smile. Hindi naman mahirap tumawa, eh,” Duterte said.
The mayor also said he already sent an emissary to the New People’s Army (NPA) to assure the peace and order during the events.
He added that he is inviting the NPA rebels to come over and spend Araw ng Davao peacefully.
“They can participate in the parade. They can come and join the celebration. Uniporme lang but they should leave their firearms. Pagkatapos ng parade, uli. Ana lang,” he said.
“We recognize the state of rebellion in this place. Wala akong problema sa kanila. Pumalag lang ako nung gumamit sila ng landmine,” he added.
