THE City Government of Davao announced Thursday the new names of three different city roads through three separate City Council ordinances.
The three city streets with new names are Bago Iñigo Road located in Barangay Bago Gallera in Talomo District, Circumferential Road, and Sandawa Road.
The Bago Iñigo Road is now Carlos V. Iñigo Sr. Road, Circumferential Road will be Gov. Gregorio V. Cañeda Road, and Sandawa Road will be named as Guillermo E. Torres Street.
The announcement of new street names gained mixed reactions from netizens after it was posted on the official Facebook account of the City Government of Davao.
Netizen Randy Gran Torres said the latest names "would really spark confusion, but Davaoeños would eventually adjust."
"Dili man gihapon ni masunod kay ang naandan sa mga tawo mao mana masunod... e.g. CM Recto - Claveria gihapon.. R Magsaysay - Uyanguren.. etc (These will be useless since people are still using the old names like Claveria for C.M Recto, Uyanguren for R. Magsaysay, and etc)," King Incorporado said.
Another netizen Cecilia Schondel said there are other issues in the city that are more important than changing street names, which she said is just a "waste of time and money".
But Joanne Nicole Aniñon Estrada said, "You can say na walang SENSE kasi hindi mo naman kilala [y]ung mga taong pinalit at kung ano ang naging contribution nila."
