Davao City has 34 new lawyers-A A +A

ONLY 34 takers from Davao City passed the 2013 Bar Examination.
Forty-nine law graduates from the Ateneo de Davao University took the bar and only 30 passed. The other four are from University of Mindanao (UM) that had a total of 68 examinees.
Of the 34 new lawyers, AdDU registered a passing rate of 61.22 percent much higher than the national passing rate of 22.18. [READ: 2013 Bar results out]
Of AdDU's total examinees, only 28 out of 34 first timers and two out of 15 retakers passed the bar exam.
UM College of Law, meanwhile, has two out of 22 first timers and two out of 46 retakers passed the exam, garnering a passing rate of 5.88 percent.
As of this writing, UM College of Law did not elaborate on the number of examinees who took the 2013 Bar Exams as it's still verifying the figures.
In October 2012 Bar Exams, only 26 passers out of 52 examinees from AdDU passed, garnering a passing rate of 50 percent. Of the examinees, 24 out of 34 first timers and only two out of 18 retakers passed the exam.
Meanwhile, UM College of Law had six out of 77 examinees, 35 were first timers and 42 retakers.
In a report, five law school graduates from University of the Philippines (UP) took the first five spots in the top 10 list of bar takers in October 2013.
UP graduate Nielson Pangan, who garnered 85.80 percent, topped the list of bar takers last year.
UP's Mark Xavier Oyales and Ateneo de Manila University's Diana Wilwayco shared the second place with 84.2 percent while Rudy Ortea of the University of Batangas) was third with 84.2 percent.
Rounding up the top 10 were UP's Eden Catherine Mopia (85.04), University of San Carlos' Tercel Mercado-Gephart (83.9), University of Cebu's Manuel Elijah Sarausad (83.8), San Beda College-Manila's Katrine Suyat (83.75), UP's Michael Tiu, Jr. (83.7), AdMU's Marjorie Ivory Fulgueras (83.65) and UP's Cyril Arnesto (83.6).
There were a total of 5,293 examinees last year but only 1,174 passed, registering a passing rate of 22.18 percent. (With reports from Sunnex)
