THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Davao Region seized on Wednesday two high-powered firearms and arrested a suspected gunrunner in its entrapment operation in Sto. Tomas town, Davao del Norte.
CIDG Davao City Special Operations team leader Francis Sonza identified the suspect as Arly Rabaca Gabonilas, 27, resident of Barangay Libertad in Sto. Tomas. Police said he was tagged as a notorious gunrunner in the province.
Personnel of the CIDG arrested the suspect in an entrapment operation at Purok 2, Barangay La Libertad in Sto. Tomas around 1 p.m., after Gabonilas agreed to meet and sell his firearms to an operative who acted as buyer.
Sonza, in a phone interview on Thursday, said the suspect sold his long firearm for P25,000 and his pistol for P16,000.
He said the CIDG arrested the suspect after he was caught receiving the marked money from the operative who acted as buyer.
"The suspect tried to pull his pistol but then the arresting officers pacified the situation and no shooting incident happened," Sonza said.
But Gabonilas said he is not the owner of the firearms. He added that he is just a middleman looking for possible buyers. He also said he is willing to divulge the names of the owners just to clear his name.
Recovered from the possession of the suspect were one colt AR15 .9mm Luger Machine pistol bearing the serial number 157175, one long magazine for caliber .9mm pistol loaded with 10 live ammunition, one caliber .45 pistol Nighthawk Custom bearing serial number 352173, one magazine for caliber .45 pistol loaded with five live ammunition, and P500 marked money.
The arrested suspect is presently detained at the CIDG-Davao jail facility in Davao City. He will be charged with violation of the Republic Act 10591, or The Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition. (ICT)
