AUTHORITIES arrested three suspects, including an active police officer, for illegally selling explosive components in Nabunturan, Compostella Valley on Monday.

The arrest was carried out by joint operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Davao Region.

Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Cinco, Chief of the Public Affairs Office of the Army's 10th Infantry Division (10ID), told reporters during the AFP-PNP Press Corps at the Royal Mandaya Hotel that the operation was launched by virtue of a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Davao City Executive Judge Pelagio Paguican.

The operation, which was spearheaded by NBI-Davao spokesperson lawyer Archie Albao, resulted in the arrest of Senior Police Officer 1 Xavier Cervo, Mendalito Mencidor, and Norbert Trinidad.

Recovered from their possession were P207,660 worth of explosive components, including 10 and a half sacks of ammonium nitrate weighing around 25 kilograms per sack, 1,132 meters of time fuse wire, 569 pieces of blasting caps, a barrel of cyanide and three kilograms of mercury.

"Matagal na tong sinu-surveillance ng mga law enforcement agencies and we believe na itong mga suspek ay cohorts sa pagpoprovide ng mga components para sa pagawa ng mga improvised explosive device (IED) ng mga New People's Army (NPA)," Cinco said.

Albao, in an interview over TV Patrol Southern Mindanao news program on Tuesday, said they are already preparing the filing of cases against the three suspects.

The suspects will be charged with violation of the Republic Act 9516 or the Amended Law on Firearms, Ammunitions and Explosives.

Superintendent Marlon Pinote, chief of the Police Regional Office-Davao’s Firearms and Explosives Office who was present at the same press conference, said they plan to conduct a technical examination to determine the source of the explosive components and how it got on the hands of the arrested suspects.
