DAVAO CITY Mayor Rodrigo Duterte warned anyone from Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and its 12 police stations on Sunday to stop asking for money from those they arrest for any violation here, or else they will be removed from their post.

The mayor, in his television program “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa” on Sunday, said he has been receiving information about policemen asking for money from those who are caught either arrested for violating the anti–smoking ordinance in the city.

"I heard that some police officers who catch people smoking ask them for money. If you encounter this, remember the body number and plate number of the police mobile and the name plate of the officer, then report it to me," Duterte said.

Duterte vowed to work on the summary dismissal, if evidence supports the complaints against those policemen asking amounts from the violators. He said he had already warned the policemen over the issue, and yet he still received complaints.

"Giingnan nako ang mga police kung mao man ng kaso ninyo, I will work for your dismissal. You know that is extortion… manghod lang na gamay sa robbery with intimidation. Wala’y daghan samok or storya, i–summary jud ta mo for dismissal, (I told the police that if you are found guilty of that, I will work for your dismissal. You know that is extortion, very close to robbery with intimidation. I will put you up for dismissal.)" Duterte said.

DCPO director Vicente Danao Jr. has vowed to corroborate the report.

He said he would check his personnel whether the information is true or not. He added that he will support the decision of the mayor once the policeman will be found guilty on the issue.
